Crowds, Raucous Entertainment and Rowdy Fun: A Legendary Buffalo Chip
Sturgis Rally Week Wrap-Up
Buffalo Chip, S.D. (August
24, 2010) – The dust is just beginning to settle after Sturgis Rally
Week 2010 brought tens of thousands of motorcycles and motorcycle
enthusiasts to the distinguished grounds of the Legendary Buffalo Chip.
Once again proving itself as the best party anywhere, Sturgis’ premier
entertainment venue and travel destination celebrated Sturgis Rally Week’s
70th Anniversary in true biker fashion. Providing record-breaking crowds
of visitors with an array of entertainment, art, vendors, food,
amenities and countless memories, the Legendary Buffalo Chip is already
counting Sturgis Rally Week 2010 as one of its most successful rally
gatherings ever.
Rally Week 2010 at the
Legendary Buffalo Chip included a vast and impressive selection of
celebrated musical guests resulting in the biggest and most authentic
summer music festival of its kind. Performances that graced the Chip’s
four entertainment stages included; Ozzy Osbourne, Bob Dylan, Kid Rock,
Motley Crue, the Scorpions, ZZ Top, The Doobie Brothers, Dave Mason, Lee
Rocker, Tesla, Drowning Pool, Creedence Clearwater Revisited, The Guess
Who, Trailer Choir, Buckcherry, Orianthi, Stone Sour, Jason Aldean,
Williams & Ree and Disturbed.
In addition to its
unparalleled musical lineup, the Legendary Buffalo Chip was proud to
host Michael Lichter’s 10th Annual Motorcycles as Art exhibit. From
August 7 through August 13 throngs of bike enthusiasts filled the
Lichter Exhibition Hall on the grounds of the Legendary Buffalo Chip and
were captivated by the machines and photographs on display by custom
motorcycle photographer and curator, Michael Lichter. Focusing on the
explosion of interest and passion for custom motorcycles seen over the
past thirty years, this year’s retrospective was entitled “Eternal
Combustion- 30 in the Wind”. Described as one of the finest industry
collections ever assembled, this year’s exhibit consisted of thirty
bikes built by 15 pairs of renowned builders tied together by family,
respect, friendship or apprenticeship. By melding art and
motorcycles together in a way that bikers can genuinely appreciate, year
after year Lichter has truly been able to capture the essence of the
motorcycle lifestyle.
The Legendary Buffalo
Chip’s 2010 Sturgis Rally festivities also included the third annual
Legends Ride. Signaling the official start to Sturgis Rally 2010, more
than 300 bikers from around the world converged to take part in the
renowned ride for charity. The star-studded and scenic 50-mile
expedition from historic Deadwood through the Black Hills to the grounds
of the Legendary Buffalo Chip raised a jaw-dropping $53,000 to benefit
the Sky Ranch for Boys and the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame and
Museum.
The epic grounds of the
Legendary Buffalo Chip have witnessed an impressive assortment of
recording artists and celebrities during Rally Weeks past…but nobody
quite like this. The quirkiest addition to the Chip’s 2010 Rally
lineup was eccentric funnyman and American icon, Pee-wee Herman. As part
of “Pee-wee’s Big Sturgis Adventure”, on August 8 & 9, Herman
participated in a number of entertaining events which helped kick off
the Chip’s Rally Week festivities in style. “Pee-wee’s Big Sturgis
Adventure” included an “extreme makeover” of Pee-wee’s iconic
1947 red Schwinn bicycle.
A mix of
nationally renowned and local South Dakota motorcycle and bicycle
builders took part in transforming donated TRANSIT 3-Speed Electric
Schwinn bicycles into high-tech, tricked out, ultra cool rides uniquely
suited for Pee-wee Herman. Steve “Brewdude” Garn of BREW Bikes,
built the winning bike. An “Easy Rider” themed bike dubbed the
“Pee-wee Rider” complete with an American flag paint job was the
bike that Pee-wee chose and inaugurated as Captain of the third annual
Legends Ride.
