Friday the 13th

Once again the 30th Friday The 13th in Port Dover was a great success.

This event only happens once or twice a year, when the 13th falls on a Friday. This year it just happened to fall in this month of August, but we will not see another until next May, 2011.

With over a hundred thousand showing up for the event, and beautiful weather, some of the town’s entrepreneurial residents and merchants were in heaven.

This day, has to be one of the biggest Canadian Motorcycle events by far, attracting riders not just from all over Canada, but the US as well. When one considers that Port Dover has only a population of 5527, the Ontario Provincial Police had to close off the town for the exception of motorcycles, local traffic and the media. If you are a coffee addict, and you ever wish to attend this event, be prepared to wait a good hour or more in line for one.

It seemed that many of the town’s residents were getting in on the act as well. Some have even been preparing for it all year, and were selling everything from lemonade, to photographing you and your ride, to renting out their front lawns from $20 to $100 dollars for the overnight stay from Thursday - depending on the location.

Even the Angels were in on it with a motor home parked on the edge of town - I am not sure exactly to what capacity because I am going on rumor - but it was said that they were there to sell some of their wares, but mostly to maintain public relations.

Ride safe, be safe
